Since 2015, Aqua-Green Integrated Farming Support Initiative (AGI) has been a leading force behind the Nigerian Agricultural Enterprise Curriculum (NAEC) training programs. This initiative, in collaboration with the Partnership Initiative in the Niger Delta (PIND), was designed to equip farmers, youth, and retirees with the skills to thrive in agriculture while fostering entrepreneurial thinking.
- The NAEC training programs were built around a structured curriculum that balanced technical farming skills with business management principles. Participants were introduced to modern aquaculture techniques, including biofloc systems, feed formulation, and pond management. They also received training on crop farming, livestock management, and integrated farming systems. The program catered to both beginners and experienced farmers, ensuring inclusivity and adaptability.
- What set the NAEC training apart was its focus on entrepreneurship. AGI emphasized the importance of treating farms as businesses, teaching participants how to develop business plans, conduct market analyses, and manage finances. Practical exercises, such as cost-benefit analysis and financial record-keeping, were incorporated to provide real-world insights into running successful farming ventures.
AGI also utilized farming simulation exercises to give participants hands-on experience. These simulations covered the entire farming cycle—from production to marketing—allowing participants to gain a holistic understanding of agricultural enterprise management. The impact of the NAEC training has been profound. Over 10,000 participants have been trained across multiple states, with many transitioning into successful agripreneurs.
